Commentary | Don Quixote stays still ready to fight against a lion but the animal remains into its cage although the lion keeper has opened it; in the background, the carter riding away with his mules (Sancho and don Diego de Miranda should also appear).
Well-known scene and composition, but resolved with remarkable drawing. Notice that the carter copies one of the figures from Velázquez' The Triumph of Bacchus or The Drunkards (1628-29). |
