Commentary Before descending don Quixote into Montesinos' cave, Sancho warms him: "Mire vuestra merced, Señor mío, lo que hace: no se quiera sepultar en vida"; don Quixote answers him: "Ata, y calla [...], que tal empresa como aquesta, Sancho amigo, para mi estaba guardada" (22:2).
Well-represented conversation through gestures.
The bachelor's cousin, who had guided them to the cave, observes them.
The man on the right, holding a rope, do not appears in Cervantes' text (maybe Vanderbank has wrongly included both the bachellor and his cousin).
Drawing and engraving are excellent; remarkable large size figures.
Notes 1 - Same plate used for London: Tonson, 1738.
