Commentary | The two ladies of the coach kneel before don Quixote and beg him not to hurt their squire, lying half-dead on the ground.
In the background, Sancho with his donkey and Rocinante (left) and the ladies' coach and other squires (right). Vierge's style is absolutely masterly; his figures are detailed and real; notice don Quixote's gesture. Vierge's short and fine drawing lines imitate etching; carefully-done illustration. |
