| Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho leave the Duke castle; the Duke and the Duchess bid them farewell from the staircase; also several maidens, dueñas and servants.
Notice a very comical/crude detail: Sancho's donkey is defecating and some dogs follow it smelling. Very remarkable setting and composition, carefully-done and with excellent use of light and shadow, halftones and shading. Vierge's style is masterly. Usual in his illustrations, some element in black creates a worth noting contrast. His short and fine drawing lines imitate etching. |
