Commentary Don Quixote, disarmed and mounted on Rocinante, and Sancho descry their village from a rising ground; Sancho falls on his knees and exclaims "Abre los ojos, deseada patria, y mira que vuelve a ti Sancho Panza tu hijo, si no muy rico, muy bien azotado" (72:2).
Sancho's donkey carries don Quixote's arms and the robes from Altisidora's episode.
Well-known scene and composition (both characters in the foreground with their backs to the viewer and the village in the background); but remarkable illustration for the use of color, quite impressionist.
The whole image is full with an atmosphere of don Quixote's sadness.
