Commentary | At night, don Quixote, Sancho, the Duchess and Duke observe the appearance of Merlin's cart with the enchanted Dulcinea.
Accurate details to Cervantes' text: Sancho appears hidden behind the Duchess' skirts; Merlin has the figure of Death; the cart is accompanied by a procession of figures in white robes, some of them in mules, and holding lit wax tappers or playing instruments. Very remarkable illustration; good use of color and light and shadow contrasts. |
