Commentary | Don Quixote, knelt, knighted at the inn by the innkeeper; witnessing the scene, two party girls (doña Tolosa and doña Molinera), a boy holding a candle and several inn guests.
The scene should have been represented at night; notice that, despite the daylight, Jules David has kept the figure of the boy holding a candle (accurate to Cervantes' text). Detailed setting and figures, represented as picturesque Spanish types. |
