Commentary | Princess Micomicona (Dorotea) knelt before don Quixote begging for his help in Sierra Morena; at one side, his arms hanging on a tree and an extremely lean Rocinante, and, at the other side, Sancho (?).
The upper part of the illustration has been resolved as a vision of triumph/glory (don Quixote with Micomicona in MICOMICĂ“N, a knight on horseback, cupids on dragonflies, hybrid figures....). Notice that the image of the Gorgon Medusa has been represented on don Quixote's shield. |
