Commentary After hearing the answer of the enchanted head, Sancho gets angry and don Quixote shouts him: "Bestia [...], ¿qué quieres que te responda?" (62:2).
Sancho's gesture has been exaggerated.
Don Antonio, his wife and friends observe the scene.
Scene resolved with great austerity.
The enchanted head as a Roman bust (accurate to Cervantes' text).
Excellent drawing and engraving.
Notes 1 – Copy in reduced format after Grignion’s plate with Hayman’s design for London: Millar, 1755.
2 – Same plate first engraved for London: T. Osborne, 1761 (2nd edition of T. Smollet’s translation).
