Commentary Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), but now it is a different moment. Sancho orders the woman to give the money back to the accused man. Simple composition, as a theatrical performance. Well drawn and engraved.
This is one of the best illustrations of the set.
Notes Accompanied by the poem:
"The Woman's strongest, but of force complains,
Yet for a Purse of Gold her part maintains.
Sancho the fallacy with ease perceives,
Corrects the Woman, and the Clown relieves".
