Commentary | Arrival of Camacho and Quiteria surrounded by musicians (one playing the violin), dancers and the priest.
Accurate to Cervantes' text: "los novios, que rodeados de mil géneros de instrumentos y de invenciones venían acompañados del cura y de la parentela de entrambos" (20:2). Heath has chosen a merry instant from the whole chapter, not the dramatic moment when Basilio pretends to stab himself (traditionally more represented). Notable composition; notice the curve created by the characters providing depth to the scene. The figure of the female dancer on the right is clearly in keeping with Art Nouveau style. Excellent drawing. |
