Commentary The innkeeper Juan Palomeque, followed by the priest, the barber and Dorotea, enters the room and discovers don Quixote attacking several wineskins while Sancho searches giant Pandafilando's head under the bed.
Accurate to Cervantes' text, don Quixote appears asleep, in shirt, with a night cap on his head, a blanket wrapping his arm and brandishing his sword.
Well-known scene, but Lalauze's remarkable and personal style makes it unique and very worth-noting.
Excellent drawing and engraving; remarkable light and shadow contrasts.
Notes 1 - Same plate first engraved for Edinburgh: William Paterson, 1879-84.
