Commentary | Tosilos falls in love with doña Rodríguez' daughter; the metaphor used by Cervantes -"el niño ceguezuelo, a quien suelen llamar de ordinario Amor por esas calles, [...] llegándose a él bonitamente, sin que nadie le viese, le envasó al pobre lacayo una flecha de dos varas por el lado izquierdo, y le pasó el corazón de parte a parte" (56:2)- has been illustrated by Johannot with great mastery, creating a very original image.
Notice Tosilos' armor, perfectly drawn and engraved. |
Notes | 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37. |
