Commentary This illustration is always a climax within the whole iconographical program and Johannot has reinforced its dramatic sense (see the housekeeper and the niece; their expressions are very remarkable).
Don Quixote, lying dead in his bed, appears surrounded by the other characters: the priest, the barber, the bachelor Sansón Carrasco, Sancho, the niece and the housekeeper (those in the foreground -Sancho and the niece- appear on their knees to allow the viewer to see don Quixote).
Notes 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
