Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657).
Don Quixote hanged from the window and in balance over Rocinante; four travelers (servants of don Luis's father) arrive at the inn and Rocinante comes closer to a mare to smell it, causing don Quixote's fall. Drawing and engraving are acceptable; don Quixote's figure is remarkable and the humorous realism too (see Rocinante smelling the mare). This is one of the best illustrations of the whole set. The use of crayon manner is remarkable. |
