Commentary | Well-known scene since Coypel (Paris: Surugue, c. 1734), but now with a great novelty: Dorotea is the only character; neither the priest nor the barber nor Cardenio appear (we, the viewers, are the priest, the barber and Cardenio).
Dorotea, close to a stream, washes her feet and combs her hair; figure of excellent drawing and engraving and great beauty, with tender and melancholic face; her clothes are "goyescas". This is one of the best images of Dorotea ever done. |
