Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724) or Antonio Carnicero (Madrid: Ibarra, 1780); composition with little novelty. Don Quixote attacks the theater while Maese Pedro (with a patch on his left eye) appears from behind the curtain to stop him; the innkeeper, Sancho and others observe them.
The figure of a woman protecting her child is habitual in the representation of this episode. Good engraving. |
