Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) and Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724); this is one of the most represented episodes. Don Quixote and Sancho riding Clavileño while a pair of servants pretend its flight with torches; the Duke, the Duchess and other servants observe them.
Good contrast between don Quixote, with noble figure, and Sancho, frightened. In the right foreground, some female figures of neoclassical style. Good print of excellent drawing and engraving. |
