Commentary | Well-known scene since Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724); on the right, the Countess Trifaldi and the other dueñas raises their veils to show their beards; on the left, don Quixote and Sancho look astonished while the Duke and the Duchess laughs.
The white and black contrast created in the group of the Dueñas (garments and veils) is remarkable (with different kinds of burin lines). |
