Illustrations: Edition contains a portrait of Cervantes in color copied by A. Seriñá after Luis de Madrazo's original design, two illustrated title pages with vignettes designed by Jaume Pahissa y Laporta (the vignette in the title page of volume II is the same used as tailpiece for chapter VII:II). It also has 126 headpieces and 119 tailpieces designed by Pahissa, and finally 25 chapter illustrations in color designed by A. Seriñá.
Most of the illustrations are based on Ricardo Balaca y Canseco's and José Luis Pellicer's illustrations for Barcelona: Montaner & Simon, 1880-83. They are not copies, but reproduce settings and characters.
Some illustrations are also based on Doré's for Paris: Hachette, 1863.
"Los dibujos de los grabados intercalados firmados por Pahissa están más artísticamente hechos y con más propiedad que las láminas en color de Seriñá" (Río y Rico).
Some illustrations include the signature "F. fto.", referring to the photographer in charge of reproducing the original drawings. |
Description: Text from 1608 Madrid edition.
