On the contrary, Marstrand's caricature style is quite remarkable.

Commonly considered the 1st illustrated edition of the Quixote, i.e., with an extensive set of engravings. According to Ashbee, the engravings are "well executed." Río y Rico refers to two illus. ("Don Quixote knighted" and "Doña Rodríguez' night adventure") as if they appeared in this edition, but they don't.

It also has two frontis and 32 illustrations about Cervantes' Don Quixote copied after Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657; and later editions) and Bouttats (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73). There are 13 illustrations (vol. V) about Filleau de Saint-Martin's Continuation. In Cushing's copy the illustration "Dispute at the inn" (45:1) appears twice; once in the place of illus. "DQ hanged by his hand" (43:1), which is missing. Later copied by Prudent Bizot for Lyon: Amaulry, 1711 and Lyon: Rigollet, 1738. Newly engraved by unknown engraver for Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1713 and Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1722.
Description: As Palau indicates, this is the same edition as Amsterdam: Pierre Mortier, 1696, republished in 1700, but with different title pages. It is also identical in content to Paris: C. Barbin, 1695, although with different illustrations. Volume V has the Continuation. The fourth edition of Filleau's translation and the third edition published in five volumes with the Continuation. The first edition of Filleau's translation was published in Paris by Claude Barbin, 1677-1678, without illustrations. Very rare, only copy in WorldCat.
